Experience & Achievements

ATN Seven Network Operations

Duty Maintenance Technical Officer                                                               since May 2012

The focus of the role is to ensure that studio production is output to air, regardless of technical issues. If problems occur, I develop creative solutions to overcome them to ensure no interruptions to transmission. This involves anticipating potential problems with the equipment and pre-emptively devising solutions. It is vital that tight deadlines are met to ensure that programs go to air, regardless of equipment failure.

  • Resolved a video server problem one minute before a major news bulletin went to air. Failure to resolve this issue would have resulted in no background vision going to air, other than the newsreader on set.
  • Following a power surge which had disabled a third of the equipment in the technical rack room, ensuring that the station still output programming for a live broadcast by re-configuring a back-up studio and re-configuring the remaining equipment.
  • Responded after hours to resolve an audio issue that had been caused by an incorrect setting in the console control computer.

Broadcast Technical Maintenance Technical Officer             April 2009 – May 2012

This was a fly-in-fly-out role (from France) involving weekly and fortnightly shifts to provide general station service and maintenance of on air facilities while other team members were on leave.

  • Developed a database of all spare parts at the station which enabled all technicians to more easily locate parts and determine whether stocks needed to be replenished which prevented delays in technical repairs.

Team Leader – Workshop Broadcast Technical Maintenance      August 2007 – October 2008

Managed a team of seven which include rostering, managing projects, ordering products, parts, and components, paying invoices, preparing capital expenditure applications, liaising with other departments regarding, staffing, security, OHS, First Aid, and the resolution of technical issues.

  • Fostered regular communication and convened meetings to ensure that all team members were aware of the progress of projects and issues that needed to be resolved. This also enhanced collaboration and cooperation between team members.
  • Established a more equitable roster structure which led to higher team member satisfaction and morale.
  • Implemented a talkback system for Channel 7 Martin Place.

Supervising Technical Officer Channel 7                            May 2000 – August 2007

Serviced and maintained audio mixing consoles, tape machines, amplifiers, CD players, microphones, talkback systems, camera arm electronics, supervised a trainee technician, supervised shifts, ordered parts and equipment.
